As you get closer to your due date, it’s normal to start feeling a little anxious about the big day. After all, giving birth is a pretty big deal! But here are some top tips for how to prepare for your baby’s arrival:
Create a birth plan
One of the best things you can do to prepare for your baby’s arrival is to create a birth plan. This document outlines your preferences for things like pain relief, who you want in the delivery room with you and what type of delivery you’re hoping for. Having a birth plan can help you feel more in control and make sure your wishes are respected. Thinking about your preferences also helps to mentally prepare you for the upcoming birth. If you have chosen to store your baby’s stem cells then it’s worth writing this in your birth plan so all healthcare professionals who are involved in your care are aware. Collecting your baby’s stem cells fits around your birth plan, as the process is non-invasive, pain free and requires very little intervention from the phlebotomist who is collecting the sample. You can read more about the benefits of storing your baby’s stem cells here.
Pack your hospital bag
Another important thing to do as you prepare for your baby’s arrival is to pack your hospital bag. This should include everything you need for yourself and your baby, from clothes to nappies to toiletries. You’ll also need to pop your stem cell collection kit into your hospital bag as well so you’ve got it ready for the big day! It’s a good idea to pack your bag a few weeks before your due date so you’re not scrambling at the last minute. We have a list of what to include here.
Assemble your baby’s cot/crib
If you’re planning on using a crib for your baby, now is the time to assemble it! Putting together your baby’s crib ahead of time will help you avoid any last-minute stress. Plus, it’s always nice to have one less thing to worry about when your little one finally arrives. Remember to wash all of the bed sheets before the baby’s arrival too!
Get enough rest
It’s important to get plenty of rest when you’re pregnant, especially in the weeks leading up to your due date. Your body is working hard to prepare for childbirth and you’ll need all the energy you can get. So make sure to take it easy and get plenty of rest.
Household jobs
In the weeks leading up to your baby’s arrival, it’s a good idea to do some household jobs that you may not have time for once the baby is born. This includes things like vacuuming, dusting and doing the laundry, but it’s very important not to over exert yourself in these last few weeks of pregnancy! Better than doing the housework yourself, get someone else to do it whilst you put your feet up and get some much needed rest! It’s also a good time to stock up on supplies like nappies, wipes and maternity pads.
Pregnancy can be a very exciting time, but it’s also normal to feel a little anxious about the big day. By following these tips, you can help make the transition go as smoothly as possible. And before you know it, you’ll be holding your beautiful new baby in your arms.
